Hi Anna -

Thanks for your comments. It's true that the blog design doesn't take slow connections into account - anything from DSL up should be good. I suggest trying the mobile version - there's a link at the bottom of every page to switch to the mobile version.

The colors are chosen for reading at night or in other dark environments, and also to save energy. Black text on a white background has been found to have even more readability issues especially in different lighting environments and for users with visual disabilities. The mobile version should help with that though if you prefer!

Hi Michael,

Quick uninvited feedback on your blog: the topics are very interesting, and your educational credentials are relevant and interesting as well. However, it is uncomfortable to read white text on a black surface, and also the blog is heavy/slow loading (sitting on a relatively slow connection), probably because all the sidebar stuff is loading on every page. I only complain because I like the topics and would like to read some of the posts :-) and would appreciate if it was more convenient to do so (in the long run). Txs. Anna

I agree with your analysis of the reaction of the actors, but I feel that the message of the song, although comical, may actually sway people away from eating animal products. Even though it's a funny sounding song, and the commercial is making satire of the animal’s position, maybe it will make some people think more deeply about it. In that way, I think McDonalds may have made a mistake by making this commercial, even if it does result in some short term gains in sales while the commercial is up, the long term loss of some people going vegetarian would be a big problem for them. As a vegan, this is exactly the type of thing I want people to think about, if they were in the position of the animal. Compassion has to start somewhere. Most people won't get that message, and maybe those types of people were never going to stop eating meat, but to those open to it, the song may make a difference, in spite of the commercial.

It's a good start for the Bishop of Oxford to call for a technology fast. My question, and this goes for any type of fast from an object, is will there be noticeably changed behavior after Lent?

Perhaps the Bishop could have said more about technology not only as objects, but as a context in which we construct meaning.
